Canadian Culture

Our country and our communities are rich in culture, from the Vancouver Symphony to the Atlantic Fringe Festival. Canada's vibrant arts community is world-class, diverse and creative. The Canwest Foundation's support of the arts gives artists a stage, the audience a gift and the next generation of performers a dream.

Arts Festivals

Canwest provides substantial financial support to the arts community in its home city, Winnipeg. Considered the cultural cradle of Canada and the crossroads of North America, Winnipeg is renowned for its vibrant arts community. Support of arts festivals creates opportunities for performers to showcase their craft and audiences to enjoy our rich culture. The company contributes financial support to Freeze Frame, the International Children's Festival, the Winnipeg International Writer's Festival, Western Canadian Music Week, the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Gimli Film Festival.

Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts

Canwest donated $250,000 to the Canadian Opera Company capital campaign to support the new Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. The centre is a 2,000-seat theatre specifically designed for opera and ballet and features a five-story City Room for informal public recitals and performances.

CanWest Global Performing Arts Centre

The Company continues to support the Canwest Performing Arts Centre in Winnipeg, a state-of-the-art facility that is home to the Manitoba Theatre for Young People. The theatre offers captivating performances to over 50,000 visitors a year and provides thousands of young performers a venue in which to cultivate their art.
