CanSpell
The Canwest CanSpell National Spelling Bee complements the Canwest commitment to strengthen and promote family literacy. The competition encourages Canadian students in Grades 5 through 8 to compete at local, regional, national and international spelling competitions.
CanSpell is supported and promoted by Canwest newspapers. Also, the national finals are broadcast on Global stations and streamed live to the world on canada.com.
The spelling bee was an overwhelming success in 2007, with the country's best spellers going on to compete at the Scripps National Bee in Washington, D.C. Over 160,000 students from across Canada participated. Soohyun Park, was crowned the 2007 Canwest CanSpell Champion, after she correctly spelt the Anticipated Championship Word - hypobulia.
