MarketSaskatoon, Saskatchewan; the City of Bridges. One of Canada’s fastest growing cities in both population and GDP. Driving Saskatoon’s economy are mining and the oil industry. The city is the headquarters to two of Canada’s mining leaders; Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan and the uranium giant Cameco. Saskatoon is also home to a thriving high-tech industry. Innovation Place, located at the University Saskatchewan, is the research home of bio-technology companies including Aventis, Bayer Incorporated, Philom Bios, Dow Agrosciences Canada, Monsanto and Novartis. Canada’s only synchrotron is located in the city. This facility is one of only a few third generation synchrotons in the world. The facility attracts over 35 million dollars annually in commercial research and development. The Conference Board of Canada says Saskatoon will again lead the country in economic growth. The board said that while Saskatoon will not match the spectacular growth of 2008, the city has the economic momentum to top all other (census metropolitan areas) again this year. |
