The Courier-Islander is Campbell River's 1st newspaper, established in 1945, just prior to the city’s incorporation. It remains the local community paper of record – respected, awarded and read for its strong Editorial content. The 4-person Editorial staff has over 40 year’s knowledge of the marketplace. The 7-person sales staff has a combined 90 years experience servicing local display and classified advertisers.
Each Wednesday and Friday it provides free Total Urban Region Market Coverage of Campbell River, neighbouring Quadra Island and surrounding area. On Friday, it also extends its readership and ROP and flyer advertising reach to the entire North Vancouver Island Rural Region – delivering an additional 5,000 free copies to rural households in the outlying trading zone area - Merville, Black Creek, Cortes Island, Gold River, Tahsis, Sayward, Woss, Port Alice, Port McNeill, Port Hardy and Sointula and Alert Bay on Malcolm Island.
