(Toronto) Six weeks into the most anticipated fall television season in years, Global is winning where it matters and growing at a record pace.
The network is witnessing its best fall in over half a decade, seeing its primetime audience increase 56% for total viewers nationally and 37% for Adults 18-49. Global now outpaces CBC by 42% and Citytv by 186% among total viewers, and in the crucial 18-49 demographic by 77% and 180%, respectively. In addition, the network now owns half of the Top 10 programs in the country, and the key market story is equally impressive with Global taking four of the Top 10 in Toronto, five in Calgary and six in Vancouver.
Global’s overwhelming success is due to its powerful primetime slate of new and returning programs. Proven hits such as Lie To Me, NCIS, Survivor and Bones continue to perform in the ratings and fan favourite House reigns supreme as Canada’s #1 Show - nationally and in all key markets. The network is also home to the season’s breakout hit series including the#1 New Comedy, Glee and the #1 New Drama, NCIS: LA.
On the home front, ET Canada - the nation’s preeminent source for entertainment news - kicked off another incredible season, significantly growing its audience from last fall by 37% for total viewers and 13% for Adults 18-49. In addition, the unmatched combination of ET Canada & Entertainment Tonight continues as Canada’s most-watched hour of entertainment news beating CTV's eTalk & Access Hollywood by 13% for total viewers and 22% for Adults 18-49 nationally. And the great news doesn't stop there...Global National has experienced an outstanding 21% increase in viewership year over year in the key news demo of Adults 25-54. In the major markets, Global National has seen a 42% increase in viewership in Toronto, a 51% increase in Calgary and a 19% increase in Vancouver.
“Global’s standout schedule has delivered our best fall in over half a decade,” said Barbara Williams, EVP, Content, Canwest Broadcasting. “By combining the best of legal, crime and medical dramas, alongside top notch reality and comedy series, including the freshest new show, Glee – it’s terrific to see our primetime line-up shine so brightly.”
